The Armenian Students' Association of Université de Montréal, ARFYOC and Armen Karo Student Association present the photographic book presentation by Arsineh Khachikian.

A BRIEF SYNOPSIS
A lifetime spent searching for my own identity led me to the discovery of history in the making.
Underneath each rock I turned lay more rocks, revealing the story of a people undefined in a modern age: Armenians. This book explores the scope of a people who constantly resist assimilation, defy expectations of failure, and triumph in the face of their own doubt. This is the story of my life and my nation through the lens of my camera, my eyes.

INTRODUCTION . A will introduce the photographer/author with a brief
background on her experiences and objectives in the production of this book.
PRESENTATION . Arsineh will come prepared with a 15 minute slides show presentation.
DISCUSSION . After the slides show, Arsineh will elaborate on relevant sections and photos of the
book to share specific personal stories. This will continue for another 10 - 15 minutes.
QUESTION & ANSWER . Time is reserved for a question and answer session.

Nellie Hogikyan presents the edited volume entitled
Les recits de survivance [Christiane Kegle]

Nellie Hogikyan  has a chapter in Les recits de survivance.
She is currently a Post Doctoral Researcher at Centre interuniversitaire
d'tudes sur les lettres, les arts et les traditions(CELAT-UQAM). She holds a Doctorate in Comparative Literature, granted in Spring 2007 at University de Montral. 

Her Doctoral Dissertation was entitled L'imaginaire
post-exilique d'Atom Egoyan :  Dissociation et transmission sur quatre
genrations de la diaspora armenienne.

She is a regular contributor to Horizon Weekly's Literary Supplement and has given several presentations on identity issues.

Biographie :

Christiane Kègle

Christiane Kègle est professeure titulaire au Département des littératures de l’Université Laval. Elle a fondé le Groupe de recherche sur les récits de survivance (GRERÉS) en 2002, et elle en assume la direction scientifique depuis ce temps. Spécialisée en sémiopsychanalyse et en analyse du discours, elle pratique depuis quelques années l’&oelig;uvre de Paul Ric&oelig;ur (herméneutique du récit), afin de mieux cerner les rapports entre la fiction et l’histoire dans les récits de survivance de la Shoah. Des notions de généricité discursive (théories des genres) sont aussi liées à ses recherches sur la littérature de l’indicible (témoignages, autofictions, mémoires de déportés, récits de la seconde génération des survivants). Elle a publié de très nombreux articles dans des revues spécialisées, dont Protée, revue internationale de théories et pratiques sémiotiques, Texte, revue de critique et de théorie littéraire, Études littéraires et Voix et images. Elle a assumé la direction de plusieurs ouvrages collectifs et numéros de revues savantes.

Les récits de survivance mettent en scène des sujets confrontés à des situations de crise individuelles ou sociétales, et à la perte de repères identitaires. Ils sont pris en charge par un ou des récitants au sein des discours oraux, écrits ou visuels faisant état de stratégies particulières de survie. Ils abordent des thèmes comme l’exclusion sociale, l’exil, les déportations, les guerres, les camps de concentration, les génocides. Ils témoignent d’une expérience de déstabilisation souvent difficilement surmontable et pouvant aller jusqu’à la mort psychosociale de l’individu. Les chercheurs du Groupe de recherche sur les récits de survivance (GRERÉS) s’inscrivent dans une démarche interdisciplinaire ; ils tentent de mettre au jour les mécanismes d’adaptation qui permettent d’assumer le poids accablant d’un passé contraignant. Pour l’étude de ce paradigme, certains paramètres apparaissent significatifs, tels le temps, la mémoire et la filiation.

 Ce livre rassemble des textes de Christiane Kègle et Claudie Gagné, François Ouellet, Roland Le Huenen, Alexandre Prstojevic, Laurence Boudreault, Jean-Paul Pilorget, Françoise Genevray, Nellie Hogikyan, Joceline Chabot et Richard Godin.
